The nervous system receives a much needed break. Postures open the body (vs. stretching the body in Yin) and are deeply relaxing. Restorative postures that are held for a long period of time with stillness. Yin Yoga is a similar and supported passive practice using stretches to open the body and relax the mind.
Passive postures are held with little to no muscle engagement to open fascia, the connective tissues in the body. Yin postures open fascia using the combination of time, gravity and stillness, improving mobility and flexibility. Props are used to relax and support the practitioner and postures can be held from 2 to 5 minutes at a time.
Props needed: 2 yoga blocks, blankets, bolster and a strap. If you do not have traditional yoga props, use beach towels, pillows, a belt and sturdy books for blocks.
